G-Y only: 1 bunch broccoli
1 small head cabbage
1 small bunch spinach
12 oz snap peas
cutting garden

CUTTING GARDEN: NEW THIS WEEK: In addition to all the herbs you've been cutting, you may now cut small bunches of cilantro and basil. You may also harvest chamomile flowers (by running your fingers through the plant). You may cut small sprigs of flowers from the annual garden behind the large greenhouse across from the barn. You may also venture further down into the field, downhill past the mum mat, past the raspberries and the large tree and cut small bouquets of perennial flowers which are on the left.

FULL SHARES:
bunch scallions
bunch salad turnip*
large bunch spinach
1 lb snap peas
2 heads lettuce
1 bunch broccoli
cutting garden

SMALL SHARES:
bunch scallions
bunch salad turnip*
small bunch spinach
6oz snap peas**
1 head radicchio
1 head lettuce
shares A-F: bunch broccoli***
cutting garden

*Salad turnips can be eaten raw like a radish, or sauteed/roasted. The greens are also edible.

**Some of the small shares will have a mix of snap peas and golden sweet peas; eat both shell and all.

***Small shares: The broccoli is gradually sizing up and we will get a portion to everyone over the next few weeks. This week, if the name of your share as written on the check-off list begins with A through F, you may take a bunch of broccoli.

CUTTING GARDEN:
This week you may take small bunches of any of the following herbs: sage, dill, parsley, thyme, oregano, summer savory, leaf fennel, and chives.
In addition, some of the basil is now ready to be "pinched." Pinching means cutting the central stalk, while leaving nice new growth on the plant below the cut; this will encourage more growth.
Some of the flowers have just begun to bloom, so you may also pinch those and take a few blooms.

*Crop update: So we were supposed to have more broccoli and cauliflower for the last few weeks. Our mid-summer planting of 600 or so plants, was razed by woodchucks the day after planting. Fortunately, they only ate the top leaves leaving the crowns of the plants intact. But this set the crop back, and although we no have big beautiful plants in the field, they have only just begun to develop crowns. We're hoping to have some for mid-November winter shares, but a hard freeze might destroy the crop.

Today's harvest —

We're having a great squash, cucumber and eggplant year and you'll continue to experience this bounty for some time! We're trying to include some pertinent recipes each week to help you get creative.
Tomatoes have just started to ripen! If you didn't get tomatoes in your share this week, you'll be sure to have them next.

Full Shares —
—3 peppers: The cream colored peppers are a "green" pepper in that they will eventually ripen to orange as actual green peppers will eventually turn whatever color they are destined.
—1lb filet beans: The yellow beans are a lovely French heirloom called beurre de Rocquencourt.
—7-9 summer squash: this weeks varieties include zucchini, cocozelle, kousa, ronde de Nice, yellow crookneck, patty pan and zephyr.

You may take small bunches of any of the herbs. The first planting of basil is a bit tired and well-snipped so maybe take it easy on the basil this week.

CUTTING GARDEN: Today you may pick medium bouquets of flowers from the cutting garden directly behind the greenhouse across from the barn, and from the perennial flower beds which are in the field past the perennial herbs.
We've cut back most of the perennial herbs to promote future growth, but there is still sage available in that bed. You may continue to cut bunches of parsley. There is now plenty of basil (Genovese, and Thai) and you may cut big bunches.  You may now take smaller sprigs of any of the other herbs which are labelled in the same bed as the basil.

Here are some fun recipes for stuffed summer squashes. Several smaller squashes can be subbed for larger ones. The shape of ronde de Nice and patty pan lend themselves nicely to stuffing.
